* Don't Believe Scare Stories about Cyber War

This article, despite its provenance, does not address the
scientific-technical issues, and their economic, political,
and military implications.

Instead, its thesis can be reduced to this: more money and
power to the US military is bad [there are good reasons to
say this], therefore, the threat is not real ["exaggerated"
is just a way of avoiding saying "not real" -- a statement
that cannot be supported].

One can be both a leftist, and an intellectually honest
information scientist, and look the facts of the matter
squarely in the eye, and acknowledge that this is a very
serious issue. In fact, the very seriousness of the issue,
properly analyzed, confirms, rather than refutes, left
critiques of capitalist economics and authoritarian
politics.

Sincerely...

Gasoducto/PR Gas Pipeline

¿Verde or Muerte?/Green or Deadly?
A DIALOGUE WITH DR. ARTURO MASSOL

FRIDAY, JUNE 10 FROM 6:00PM - 9:00PM
UNION THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY 3041 BROADWAY @ 121ST STREET
Manhattan

A controversial gas pipeline (named Via Verde by the
government and Via de la Muerte by everyone else) threatens
the entire island of Puerto Rico. While opposition to the
project is nearly unanimous, the administration of Gov. Luis
Fortuño is determined to construct it no matter how many
lives and communities are effected or how much permanent
damage is done to the natural environment and historical
sites of native Taino people. Already, on May 1st, tens of
thousands marched under a torrential downpour to SAY NO TO
THE GASODUCTO! Many more have also signed petitions against
the project and Congressman Luis Gutierrez has eloquently
ripped the proposal in Congress. During this special forum,
we will be joined by Dr. Arturo Massol of Casa Pueblo, the
dynamic Adjuntas, Puerto Rico-based community organization -
and winner of the prestigious Goldman Environmental Prize -
that is leading the effort to get this unnecessary, costly
and dangerous project terminated. Renewable, sustainable
energy sources are abundant in Puerto Rico and can be
developed instead of this deadly project.

located. Anyone who can attend is welcome.

* Time to Arrest and Prosecute Henry Kissinger?

The Burt Cohen Show - June 7 - podcast later at
theburtcohenshow.com

Respected senior statesman or war criminal? Henry Kissinger
is touting his new book, but many are calling for the arrest
and prosecution of Kissinger for perhaps a million deaths in
Indochina, Chile, and many other places. On Tuesday's Burt
Cohen show, the widow of Charlie Horman ("Missing") along
with Debra Sweet, Director of World Can't Wait, and Tom
Keough, active with Brooklyn For Peace who started asking
people to protest Kissinger as soon as he received an ad
about K's appearance from the 92nd St Y.

* Reprint of the Map of U.S. Interventions in Latin America

The full color map of U.S. interventions in Latin America in
the Spring 2011 issue of Presente is a big success.
http://soaw.org/docs/USInterventionMaps.pdf

We have received a ton of positive feedback for the creative
illustration of some historical evidence in regards to the
continuity of oppressive U.S. foreign policy towards Latin
America under Republican and Democratic administrations.

The message the map conveys is that to create real change in
the bi-partisan U.S. foreign policy, it'll take more than a
change in the White House but the kind of hard and
persistent grassroots organizing that has brought the
victories that we are seeing in Latin America. Bill Quigley
from the SOA Watch Legal Collective suggested a print run of
the U.S. Interventions map as a stand alone full color
poster ("Whatever you have to do, you have to make this into
a poster asap - it is wonderful.")

Together with some of our closest partner organizations, we
have printed a total of 50,000 copies of the map (at a union
print shop of course!)

We are going to make the bilingual map available to you for
$3. Click here to order one or more copies of the double-
sided (one side with the U.S. intervention map in English
and the other side with the map in Spanish) map of U.S.
interventions in Latin America.

We are grateful to the design team of ILC.iNK for their work
on this awesome educational resource. Click here to download
