About Portside - Frank Emspak, Elaine Hagopian, Peter
Rachleff, Cyril Robinson, Billy Wharton

Overall I think the service is very good. I use articles
from it for reference, and often forward articles to
members of our Workers Independent News staff and also to
our Madison Labor Radio Collective. I review Portside when I
receive the posts and find them timely. It is an important

Portside is the only consistently progressive list offering
deep analysis of both domestic and international issues. It
never fails to enlighten its readers in ways that are
comprehensive and extraordinarily well informed. It is the
only set of analyses that I forward to friends who regularly
thank me for doing so. There are indeed other good
progressive lists, but none have the brain trust of writers
which Portside attracts. Portside analysts take on the most
important issues for daily workers and global peace. They
have no fear in confronting entrenched interests. Bravo to

Portside provides me with access to up-to-the-minute
reportage of important events which fly below the radar of
the mainstream media. Moreover, its reportage is usually
enriched with thoughtful and thought-provoking analysis,
without jargon or a sectarian slant. As an occasional
writer, whose contributions are usually grounded in very
specific local situations, Portside gives me a chance to
reach a national audience while the matters are still fresh.
And I know that the Portside readers are the kind of people
who are likely to take action, to go beyond reading and
feeling well-informed. It's a great bridge for us all!

Portside is an invaluable source and an inspiration in this
time when most news sources are right-wing. Apart from
providing valuable information, Portside has often provided
me with an important starting point for research, putting me
in touch with valuable information sources and suggesting
directions for my research. Portside is unique in putting
out short provocative, well researched articles on a variety
of subjects that others can run with.

People new to left-wing politics always come around to one
question - Why are there so many left groups and why can't
they get together? I struggle to answer this question since
there are a precious few examples of left cooperation across
the ideological boundaries inherited from the 20th century.
Portside is one of them. An important one at that.

Everyday my inbox is filled with interesting articles that
express viewpoints that are beyond mainstream news and are
representative of a broad variety of left traditions. I
ignore some, disagree with others and cherish the few that
help me broaden my knowledge or challenge my own

I never know who the mysterious person or people are who
select them. Now is my chance to thank them for doing what
must be a mostly thankless task. What you do is important.
It matters. Portside connects people. It is what's best
about the left when we do things well. Congratulations on
10 years and wishes for many more. My inbox awaits!

Co-Chair, Socialist Party USA
