          March 5, 2016

Over the next few weeks, hundreds of cities and campuses worldwide will be participating in Israeli Apartheid Week, which aims to raise awareness about Israel’s ongoing settler-colonial project and apartheid policies over the Palestinian people. IAW is an opportunity to partake in something truly global while strengthening local efforts in support of the Palestinian struggle for freedom, justice, and equality.

Missing Portside Posts - Saturday and Sunday

          March 7, 2016

Portside's posts did not go out as scheduled Saturday and Sunday. Our service provider, May First, upgraded all of their servers Saturday, to prevent coordinated hacking and DOS - Denial of Service attacks. Unfortunately there were conflicts between the new server software and the software that Portside uses to send posts. We have identified the problem, and are now working to correct it. Below is an Index of the posts that were posted to our website over the weekend.

Santa Ana: Living Behind Cardboard Walls

          March 2, 2016

Isabelle Lopez, her husband and their dog live in a tiny room, perhaps 130 square feet, in the impoverished Lacy neighborhood in the Orange County city of Santa Ana. The room has cardboard walls, which Lopez’s husband painted white to provide at least an illusion they were solid. On those walls, she has tacked family photos and a large reproduction of a painting titled Angel de la Guarda, surrounded by cutout paper butterflies.
