STOP THE AUCTION! PROTECT HASKON ASSETS! PROTECT HASKON
JOBS! - APPEAL FOR SUPPORT AND SOLIDARITY WITH HASKON
WORKERS -
DECEMBER 14 - 6 am Esterline - Haskon Division 336 Weir
St. Taunton, MA
November 29, 2010
http://www.gsmlaborcouncil.org/node/6660
TO:UE MEMBERS AND LOCALS IN THE NORTHEAST REGION,
UNION LOCALS, AND SUPPORTERS OF UE LOCAL 204 AT HASKON
IN TAUNTON, MA
Sisters and Brothers,
UE Local 204 members at Haskon in Taunton, MA are
fighting for their jobs and a decent severance package.
But to get an opportunity just to keep jobs at Haskon we
must stop the auction of the assets (presses and
equipment) that Esterline has scheduled for December 14.
In order for the presses and equipment to remain in
Haskon and give us an opportunity to see if we can
secure financing and re-start production the auction
cannot proceed. It must be stopped. We intend to do it
on that day.... if it is necessary to protect the
presses and equipment...that have provided good jobs in
Taunton for decades.
UE LOCALS IN THE NORTHEAST REGION, UNION LOCALS, AND
SUPPORTERS FROM THROUGHOUT NEW ENGLAND ARE ENCOURAGED TO
SEND A DELEGATION TO HASKON, 336 WEIR ST., TAUNTON , MA
027780 ON DECEMBER 14 - TO ARRIVE BY 6 AM (AUCTION IS
SCHEDULED TO BEGIN AT 9 AM) FOR MASS PICKETING,
BLOCKADING OF ENTRANCES, AND OTHER ACTION TO STOP THE
AUCTION.
The intent of the action is to deny Esterline and the
auctioneer (Heritage Global Partners) the ability to
conduct the auction. We know that if the presses and
equipment are allowed to be auctioned off or leave the
facility Local 204 members and other employees will be
denied the opportunity to secure financing, FOR PRESSES
AND EQUIPMENT ESTERLINE DOESN'T WANT and continues to
deny to Local 204 - who the company knows is interested.
This plant closing highlights the numerous problems with
this corporate and manufacturing policies and our
efforts, like they have in the past, can help begin to
change that debate...and maybe even the reality. Getting
a customer base rebuilt and committed to re-purchasing
product from 204 members will not be an easy task but if
these members are denied even the opportunity to see if
they can accomplish it, simply because a single
corporation says so, would be the ultimate industrial
travesty. The local hired an appraiser who was in the
factory last week and who should be issuing their report
in the next couple days.

We will be working hard to get the auction postponed
before December 14. However, the company has not, as of
yet, expressed much interest in working with the local
to secure save jobs at Haskon - or even agree to a
dignified severance package. If we are able to postpone
the auction we will let everyone know through email and

or if you have a facebook page type in: Keep Haskon Jobs
in Taunton!
The city council and Mayor, Cognressman Barney Frank,
state Senator Marc Pacheco and others are sending calls
to Esterline to postpone the auction to February 15. The
company has a lease on the building until the end of
April. February 15 gives UE, Local 204, other employees,
and investor partners enough time to put together the
financing and a business plan and the city council
enough time to secure the presses and equipment for new
owners. The local will be hiring an attorney to go to
court to secure an injunction on the auction... if that
is necessary.
We ask that you and/or your local union send emails,
faxes, and calls to Esterline Corporation calling on
them to postpone the auction to February 15 to give UE
and Local 204 the time necessary to save quality union
manufacturing jobs in Taunton, MA. Jobs that were there
for decades before Esterline bought Haskon in 2002 and
jobs we intend to see resurrected after 2010.This is
